Miami will be the sixth U.S. destination for Qatar Airways with non-stop service from its Doha headquarters. The destination will be serviced four-times per week aboard a Boeing 777 aircraft with service beginning in June 2014. The aircraft will be configured with 42 seats in Business Class and 217 seats in Economy Class. Qatar currently operates to Chicago, Houston, New York, and Washington D.C., with the addition of Philadelphia in April 2014. The airline has strategically selected Miami as its newest location citing the city’s international business opportunities and vibrant tourism sectors. “Miami International Airport serves nearly 40 million passengers a year, with approximately 20 million traveling internationally,” said Miami-Dade Aviation Department Aviation Director Emilio González. “The addition to Qatar Airways’ destinations in the U.S. will help establish Miami as a significant route to the Middle East and beyond.”
