The first W hotel in Mainland China is a statement of style amid an ever-evolving landscape of soaring skyscrapers near the Pearl River. An illuminated 19-meter-tall waterfall greets guests before they enter the cathedral-like dimensions of a lobby adorned with murals, leather pod chairs, gold-tinted glass, and copious dark-veined marble. The 317 rooms and suites, crafted by New York’s Yabu Pushelberg, are styled in seven themes, with each offering an espresso machine, Bose surround-sound system, spa-style bath lighting, and Bliss bath products. Standout dining options include I by Inagiku, which features a spectacular outdoor garden and a sake bar, and Yan Yu, created by Jeremy Leung, serving Cantonese cuisine. Designed to impress is FeiUltralounge, a three-story club and cocktail lounge that epitomizes the “New China Chic” to which W Guangzhou aspires.
