Alila is at it again. If you like the eco-friendly yet ultra-luxurious Alila Villas Uluwatu on the southern end of Bali, chances are strong you’ll also like its upcoming sister resort on Bintan Island: Alila Villas Bintan.

Part of the Riau Archipelago, Bintan is already popular among Singaporeans, who can reach the Indonesian island by high-speed ferry in less than an hour.

Expected to open in 2014 on the shores of the idyllic Lagoi Bay (and on a hill above it), the 14.4-hectare property will include more than 50 one- and two-bedroom villas, plus there will be over a dozen three-bedroom residences located on the beach.

Lagoi Bay, on the island’s northern tip, has attracted other hoteliers as well. Expect to see a Swiss-Belhotel Lagoi Bay and an integrated resort.

The same architectural firm that designed the Alila’s Uluwatu property, WOHA, is also working on its Bintan property. Once again, the firm is adhering to strict environmental standards and merging the buildings seamlessly into the landscape.

As with the Ululwatu resort, individual investors can buy a villa and let Alila manage it. Sales recently kicked off for the two- and three-bedroom villas, which start at US$1.8 million. Those seeking only a weekend escape don’t need to worry about the ownership structure, of course — a stay works the same as in any other resort.

This will be the third property under the “Alila Villas” brand. The other one is Alila Villas Soori, on the west side of Bali.
