With a striking inverted design poised upon a hilltop, the JW Marriott Hotel Hanoi (No. 8 Do Duc Duc, Me Tri, Từ Liêm; 84-4/3833-5588; doubles from US$132) is a new icon in the city’s skyline. Positioned in Hanoi’s central business district adjacent to the National Convention Center, the hotel’s modern half moon shape and glass-and-steel facade designed by Carlos Zapata Studio is inspired by the nation’s coastline and the figure of a dragon. Rooms start from a generous 48 square meters with a total of 394 guest rooms and 56 suites. All accommodations sport hardwood floors, floor-to-ceiling windows, Aromatherapy bath products, and modern Bose sound systems with flat panel TVs. Six food and beverage outlets populate the hotel’s 75,000 square meters featuring traditional Vietnamese options, French dining, and Cantonese cooking. Two massive ballrooms also add to the amenities mix covering 3,600 square meters. This is the JW Marriott’s first foray into Vietnam, with future expansion planned for the future. The group has more than 30 hotels planned to open, with half of those hotels in Asia.
