The Design Hotels group has unveiled their latest property the Mainport in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Designed by MAS architects, a futuristic façade of black glass and aluminum dominates the entry. The 215 room property has been built on the harbor in central Rotterdam with allusions to water throughout. From the Mainport’s private dock, which overlooks Rotterdam’s inner harbor, to wave-like patterns on the floor, liquid elements permeate the design. In-room amenities include whirlpool bathtubs and impressive fireplaces accented with light grey curtains, anthracite desks and dark timber flooring. The hotel’s spa also has a Finnish panorama sauna, a Turkish steam room, and hamam, drawing on both Scandinavian and Eastern wellness techniques. For grub, in-house dining gives a nod to Mainport’s international influences with the Down Under restaurant and On the Rock bar. Both are a homage to Sydney run by chef Sander Jongenotter serving Australian-Asian cuisine.
