It’s been five years since the Dallas-based Rosewood group managed a hotel in Asia—the last being Tokyo’s now-defunct Hotel Seiyo Ginza—but that’s set to change with the autumn opening of the Rosewood Beijing (86-10/6597-8888; doubles from US$352). Occupying 22 floors of the Jing Guang Centre, the property’s 283 residential-style rooms and suites bear the stamp of Rosewood’s sophisticated brand of luxury with floor-to-ceiling windows, original cloisonné paintings, Frette linens, and toiletries by Florentine perfumer Lorenzo Villoresi. There will be six restaurants and lounges—one devoted to hot pots, another a series of private dining rooms enlivened by Cantonese cooking stations—as well as a heated indoor swimming pool framed by potted palms and works by Hebei-born painter Li Yongfei. And for the ultimate in urban relaxation, the stone-and-timber Sense spa comes with five suites designed for overnight stays. —David Tse
