The Luxury Collection has chosen a secluded 370-meter stretch of beachfront for its first project on the Chinese getaway island of Hainan. Set to open on August 16, the hotel’s 142 rooms and suites have been finished with both local and European touches.

Each of the rooms at the Royal Begonia includes a private balcony with views of the South China Sea or landscaped gardens below, while a further 18 luxury villas offer private pools and courtyard gardens.

Personal concierges arrange visits to local villages, weaving lessons in the style of the Li people—Hainan’s largest ethnic minority group—and tours to Wuzhizhou Island, just off the Haitang Bay coast, one of the area’s premier diving locations.
