An opening performance by the Wynton Marsalis Quintet has sounded the first note at Jazz at Lincoln Center Doha at The St. Regis Doha.

“In the spirit of jazz ambassadors—Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck, and Dizzy Gillespie—we continue the legacy of bridging cultures around the world through Jazz at Lincoln Center Doha, the first Lincoln Center branded venue outside of New York City,” said Wynton Marsalis, the managing and artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center.

The debut is the first in a series of jazz clubs that St. Regis Hotels & Resorts and Jazz at Lincoln Center aim to create together as part of a partnership announced last year.

St. Regis has jazz in its blood: the landmark New York hotel has hosted many a jazz legend—from the prolific Duke Ellington to the mesmeric percussion of Buddy Rich— and the 400-square-meter JALC Doha will feature live performances six nights a week in a setting aiming to recall the atmosphere of jazz venues from the golden era.

Guests should expect the venue itself to have good chops—the acoustics and sound system have been designed by New York-based SIA acoustics, which was responsible for the Allen Room at JALC, New York. Weekday evenings will feature two sets, while weekend nights will have room for one more performance, with dinner served between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m..
