The city of George Town in Penang, Malaysia, will once again see its streets abuzz with a kaleidoscope of performances during the George Town Festival. The fest will run for the third year in a row commemorating the inscription of George Town on the UNESCO World Heritage listing.
Starting on June 15, the month-long event will feature music, art, dance, film, and more, showcasing the state’s history, culture, and heritage. With both local and international artists onboard, this year’s highlights include The Maganiyar Seduction, a unique confluence of traditional Rajathani music and contemporary theatre; Silat – Our Heritage for the World, which will see a cast of 150 showcase the majestic power of silat, the ancient Malaysian martial art form; and Tropfest, the world’s largest short-film festival, which originated in Australia in 1993.
