The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon

114 Narathiwas Road, Silom, Bangkok, Thailand

Housed in the landmark King Power Mahanakhon building in the heart of the Thai capital’s central business district, The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon is poised to become the hip hotel brand’s flagship Asian property when its debuts in May — as well as a sleek urban counterpoint to its seaside sister resort The Standard, Hua Hin. The vivid colors, fluid shapes, and lush greenery that flows seamlessly inside and out come courtesy of a collaboration between Spanish design superstar Jaime Hayon and The Standard’s own in-house design team, marking a sharp aesthetic departure from other luxury hotels in the city. All 155 guest rooms feature plush furnishings, floor-to-ceiling windows, Bang & Olufsen Bluetooth speakers, bath amenities by cult Italian beauty brand Davines, and complimentary access to the building’s rooftop Mahanakhon Skywalk, at 314 meters the highest observation deck in Thailand. As well as spacious suites (some of which come with private balconies), there is also a pair of corner Penthouses, the largest of which weighs in at 144 square meters.

In addition to an outdoor pool terrace (with the vibrant pool scene for which The Standard is known) and fully equipped gym, guests can look forward to a dynamic lineup of culinary and nightlife offerings that epitomize the brand’s “anything but standard” ethos. The first international outpost of New York’s The Standard Grill will present a classic American steakhouse experience with hints of regional flavors laced into the menu. Mott 32, a branch of one of Hong Kong’s top fine Chinese restaurants, also has a New York connection: it pays homage to 32 Mott Street in Manhattan, where the city’s first Chinese convenience store opened in 1851. Signature dishes include apple-wood roasted Peking duck and barbecue honey-glazed Ibérico pork.

The social heart of the hotel is The Parlor, a casual, foliage-filled venue that serves up global comfort foods. In the evenings, the space hosts author talks, cocktail parties, lectures by local tastemakers, and live DJ sets. Tease, meanwhile, puts a playful twist on traditional afternoon tea.

A more elevated (literally) dining experience awaits on the 76th floor, where retro-glam Ojo Bangkok — directed by acclaimed Guadalajaran chef Francisco Paco Ruano — will offer creative takes on authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. For a more vertiginous view, guests can head up to Sky Beach, the highest alfresco rooftop bar in Bangkok and undoubtedly its next favorite Instagram spot.
