Thai hotel group Anantara has finally crossed the border into Cambodia, opening an intimate, Khmer-style retreat midway between downtown Siem Reap and nearby Angkor Wat. After a day of temple touring, guests of the Anantara Angkor Resort & Spa (855-63/966-788; doubles from US$280) can unwind in one of the 39 generously sized rooms and suites, which feature hardwood floors, handcrafted teak furnishings, apsara sculptures, and balconies that overlook the central courtyard’s saltwater pool. A sense of place infuses the spa as well, with Khmer herbal compresses and body scrubs incorporating local ingredients like jasmine rice, honey, and tamarind. –David Tse
