Goa Carnival
Introduced by the Portuguese who ruled India’s smallest state for more than 400 years, the Goa Carnival has evolved from a religious event to a cultural celebration. From March 1 to 4, Christians, Hindus, and a huge influx of visitors enjoy parades complete with guitar music, including the Portuguese signature fado, colorful water fights, firework displays designed to wake the gods, and merry processionals through Goan towns for King Momo (the King of Chaos).
