VUE Bar
The centerpiece of Hyatt on the Bund, VUE Bar is a Shanghai rooftop legend for all the right reasons. Opened in 2007, it’s no newcomer to the scene, but has retained its position as a must-see for first-time visitors and repeat offenders alike. Located on the Hongkou riverfront, its 33rd floor terrace has arguably the best view in town: a panorama that includes the staid neoclassical buildings of the Bund, the wide sweep of the Huangpu River, and the bristle of Lujiazui’s futuristic skyscrapers in one turn of the head. There’s even a Jacuzzi and lounge beds where guests can chill out as they take it all in. Inside, a wood interior and wine barrels contrast sleek plate glass panels to create a quirkily classic atmosphere. With an excellent wine list, a dedicated Champagne menu, and an ever-rotating resident DJ, VUE Bar is a byword for style with a view in Shanghai. Weekends can be busy and entail a US$17 entrance that includes one standard drink. Go on a weeknight for a quieter but equally enticing experience. Downstairs, VUE Restaurant and its private dining space shares the bar’s dizzying views.
